How It Works

When someone scans the QR code on a wristband or gear tag with their phone camera, they instantly see your contact info and can tap to call or text you. No app needed — works with any smartphone's built-in camera. Scan, tap, reach you. That's it.

The finder sees your name, your phone number, and any optional info you chose to share (like medical notes for wristbands or an item description for gear tags). They get two buttons: Send Text with My Location and Call Now. If they tap text, it opens their Messages app with a pre-filled message including a map link to their location, so you know exactly where to go.

You also get an email notification within seconds telling you your code was scanned.

Nope. No apps, no subscriptions, no accounts to manage on either end. You don't need an app, and neither does the person who finds your kid or your gear. Every modern smartphone has a built-in QR scanner in the camera — that's all anyone needs.

Instantly. As soon as someone points their camera at the code, the lookup page loads and they can call or text with one tap. Most reunifications happen within a minute or two of the scan.

Product Details

Wristbands are for kids to wear at crowded venues — ski resorts, festivals, theme parks, airports, anywhere a child could get separated. They're durable, weather-resistant, and built to take a beating.

Gear tag stickers stick to helmets, backpacks, water bottles, laptops, cameras — anything you can't afford to lose. Same QR mechanism, different real-world job.

Many families use both: bands for the kids, stickers for the gear.

Wristbands and gear tag stickers are priced affordably so you can put one on every kid and every piece of gear without thinking twice. See the shop for current pricing.

Group pricing kicks in at 20+ wristbands or 50+ gear tag stickers. Learn more about group pricing.

Water-resistant. They hold up to sweat, sunscreen, rain, pools, and ski days. The QR code is printed under a protective layer so it stays scannable even after a season of real use.

Our wristbands fit most kids comfortably and are designed to be worn for a full day or full event. If you have specific sizing questions, drop us an email at support@myscanbandz.com and we'll help you figure out what works best.

The wristbands are built to last through a full vacation, ski season, or summer camp. The QR code itself never expires — your registration stays active as long as you need it. If the band wears out, just order a new one and re-register.

QR codes are surprisingly resilient — they're built with error correction that lets them scan even if a chunk is scratched or torn. But if yours gets badly damaged, email us at support@myscanbandz.com and we'll send a replacement.

Privacy & Safety

Yes. Each band has a unique code, and your contact info is only visible when someone physically scans that specific code. Nothing is searchable, nothing is public-facing, and your data is never sold, shared, or used for advertising.

myScanBandz was built with kid safety and parent control as the foundation, not as an afterthought.

We don't collect personal info about your child. The registration only asks for your contact info (parent or coordinator). Optional fields like a first name or medical notes are entirely up to you.

Explicit parent consent. Before registering a child, parents review a Direct Notice and provide an electronic signature confirming they're 18+ and the parent or legal guardian. For groups, the consent confirms an authorized adult (coach, teacher, counselor) is doing the registration.

No tracking. The band doesn't have GPS, doesn't transmit anything, and doesn't know where your kid is. It only does anything when someone scans it.

Yes — anytime. Scan your code from the same phone you registered with, verify your phone number, and you can edit any field. Useful for travel (add a hotel number), changing contacts, or updating medical info as your kid grows. No login, no password to remember.

Yes. The same update flow includes a "Start Over" option that wipes your registration and resets the code so it can be re-registered later (or by someone else). You're always in control of your own data.

Using Your Band

When your bands arrive, scan one of them with your phone. The registration page opens automatically. Fill in your name, phone, and email — takes under two minutes. Every band in that pack now points back to you.

For families with multiple kids, you can either share one pack (and your contact info covers all kids) or use separate packs (with different contact configurations per child).

Yes — the registration form has space for a primary phone and one alternate contact (a spouse, grandparent, nanny, or babysitter). Both numbers display when someone scans, with their own call and text buttons.

Yes. Update your contact info before or during your trip — swap in your hotel number, an international number, or whatever's most reachable while you're traveling. When you get home, swap it back. Takes 30 seconds.

This is exactly why the alternate contact field exists. The finder sees both numbers and can try the backup if the primary doesn't pick up. Email is also displayed, so a finder with cell trouble can still reach you.

Groups & Schools

Yes. Volume discounts kick in at 20+ wristbands or 50+ gear tag stickers, with deeper discounts as order size grows. We work with schools, daycares, summer camps, sports teams, ski schools, rental shops, and other youth programs.

See the Groups page for full details, or email support@myscanbandz.com for a quote.

One coordinator (lead teacher, camp director, program manager) registers the group. Every band in the order points back to that coordinator. When a finder scans a lost kid's band, they see the organization name and the coordinator's contact info — not the kid's name, not their parents.

The coordinator can update info anytime, so end-of-session handoffs and roster changes are easy to manage.

Comparisons

myScanBandz isn't a tracker. It's a reunification tool — built for the moment something goes wrong, not for everyday tracking.

Trackers tell you where something is. myScanBandz tells whoever finds it how to reach you.

No app, no battery, no subscription. Works with any smartphone (the finder doesn't need to own the same brand of phone, install anything, or sign in anywhere). And nothing about it transmits unless someone physically scans the code — so there's no privacy tradeoff for the peace of mind.

People do, and honestly — it's better than nothing. But a Sharpie number washes off in a day at the pool, smears in the rain, and exposes your full contact info to everyone who looks at the band. A QR code stays readable for the whole season, only displays your info to someone who scans it, and lets the finder call or text you with one tap. Same idea, more durable, more private.

About myScanBandz

myScanBandz was built by a Colorado ski patroller, paramedic, and dad. The product came out of personal experience — both as the patroller on the other end of a lost-kid call, and as the parent in a crowded festival line wondering what he'd actually do if he looked down and one of his boys wasn't there.

Read the founder story on the blog.

Designed and assembled in Colorado. Each band's QR code is printed in-house on industrial UV equipment, and gear tag stickers are cut and laminated locally — so we control quality from raw materials to your front door.
